Sourdough Discard Cheddar Biscuits

These sourdough discard cheddar biscuits are soft, cheesy, and buttery, inspired by classic Red Lobster–style cheddar bay biscuits. Made with simple pantry ingredients and sourdough discard, they bake up golden and flavorful in just minutes.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Garlic powder to taste
  • Onion powder to taste
  • Cayenne pepper to taste
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • ¾ cup sourdough discard
  • Chives optional
  • Parsley for topping

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper.
  3. Add the shredded cheddar cheese and chives (if using) and stir to combine.
  4. Melt the butter, then add the melted butter and sourdough discard to the bowl. Mix until everything is fully combined.
  5. Using an ice cream scoop or large spoon, scoop the dough onto the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Bake for about 14 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown.
  7. Remove from the oven and brush with additional melted butter. Sprinkle with parsley before serving.

Notes

  • These biscuits are inspired by Red Lobster–style cheddar biscuits, with the addition of sourdough discard.
  • Adjust garlic, onion powder, and cayenne to taste.
  • Best served warm.
