Total Time 1 hour 10 minutes
Servings: 12 sticks
Course: Appetizer
Cuisine: American, Italian

Ingredients

  • Oil for frying
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup Italian breadcrumbs
  • 1 pack mozzarella string cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Onion Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • Marinara sauce for dipping
  • Optional: parsley and freshly grated parmesan for topping

Method

  1. Cut mozzarella string cheese sticks in half and freeze for at least 30–60 minutes. This keeps them from melting too fast.
  2. Set up three bowls:
  3. Bowl 1: Flour mixed with Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper
  4. Bowl 2: Whisked eggs
  5. Bowl 3: Italian breadcrumbs
  6. Dip each frozen cheese stick into the seasoned flour, then into the egg, then into the breadcrumbs. For extra crispiness, repeat the egg and breadcrumb step for a double coating.
  7. Place coated sticks on a tray and freeze again for 15–20 minutes.
  8. Heat oil in a deep pot or skillet to 350–365°F.
  9. Fry mozzarella sticks in batches for about 1–2 minutes until golden and crispy. Do not overcrowd the pan.
  10. Remove and place on a paper towel-lined plate.
  11. Serve immediately with warm marinara. Top with parsley and freshly grated parmesan if desired.

Notes

• Freezing before frying is key to prevent cheese from leaking out.
• Keep oil temperature steady for even browning.
• Double coat for extra crunch.
